About the ADA and ADAAA

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a civil rights law that was originally passed in 1990 and protects individuals with disabilities from discrimination in the workplace. The Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA), which went into effect in 2009, expanded the definition of disability and increased the number of employees to which the ADA is applicable. ADA requires employers to consider accommodations for employees with disabilities so they are able to perform the essential functions of their job, with or without reasonable accommodations. These accommodations vary and may involve workplace modifications and/or extensions of employee leave.
