EXPERIENCE: Mark entered into the industry in 1984 as an insurance agent in the family owned agency of Financial Designs, Inc. which was founded by his father, Robert G. Churella, Sr. in 1970. Mark was appointed President and CEO of Financial Designs, Inc. in 1988. Under his leadership the FDI Group was established in 1990 to serve as the controlling entity of the growing number of companies. Today, there are nine affiliates thriving under the FDI Group umbrella which exemplifies his commitment of creative business development to bring the best solutions, the best people and the best service to the marketplace.

SPECIALTY: Mark oversees the strategic direction, development and implementation of the enterprise investment strategy and provides direction to leadership functions and business organizations to meet the enduring needs of our customers. Mark earned a B.A. degree from the University of Michigan in 1979 and is a licensed Property & Casualty, Life & Health Insurance Producer.

Ryan Churella

EXPERIENCE: Ryan started his career in 2010 as an Account Executive for CompOne Administrators and was promoted to Vice President of Operations in 2014. In his current role, he shares in the day-to-day oversight and support of all FDI Group business affiliates and focuses on specific growth enablers, including performance metrics, important strategic partnerships, and leadership initiatives. As a member of the executive leadership team, Ryan manages a number of organization-wide processes and activities, driving seamless strategies and execution across the enterprise.

SPECIALTY: Ryan is a member of The FDI Group executive board and has played a leadership role in the expansion of technology engagement and was instrumental in the successful implementation of numerous corporate initiatives to ensure stability and continuity of service to our customers. Ryan earned a B.A. degree from the University of Michigan and is a licensed Property & Casualty Insurance Producer.

Bruce Stubbs

EXPERIENCE: Bruce began his career with The FDI Group of companies as Vice President of Sales in 2005. He led efforts in sales and business development and was an integral member in the financial planning, pricing, and cost management activities within the claims management companies. In 2006, Bruce was appointed to the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of AbsencePlus, CompOne, ManageAbility and Startech Software. He holds the same title for two additional FDI Group companies, MAI IME and Rizikon, which were both formed in 2015.

Prior to joining FDI Group, Bruce entered into the industry in 1988 as an Account Executive for a rehabilitation and vocational provider. He then took a role with a regional TPA as an Account Executive in 1991. During his fourteen years, he held a number of posts finishing his tenure as Vice President of Sales in 2005. His experience included Claims Administration, Managed Care Products, and Independent Adjusting Services in the P&C Insurance markets.

Bruce is a member of the Knights of Columbus and a veteran of the U.S. Armed Services having served as a Military Police Officer. He firmly believes that God, AA (staying sober 31 years), hard work and helping others was the Key to his success, stating “Faith will move mountains but it is a good Idea to bring a shovel while you wait!”

SPECIALTY: Bruce is responsible for ensuring that the appropriate people, processes and tools are in place to enable delivery of services and for building a culture of continuous improvement within the companies. He integrates work across the core operations and quality assurance operations, and coordinates with other functions including Information Technology, and Risk Management, to support business success and provide value to customers.

Executive Vice President of Finance

Jayne Schefke

Experience: Jayne is the Executive Vice President of Finance. Jayne is responsible for corporate financial planning, analysis, forecasting, capital commitment planning, and competitive analysis.

Before joining FDI Group on an executive level, Jayne worked with the GBF agency. There, she processed group enrollments for life insurance, performed accounting responsibilities, and was later promoted to office manager. She worked for the GBF Agency from 1983 to 1991 when FDI Group acquired them.

Specialty: Jayne leads a team of professionals specializing in accounting and finance. Jayne was named to this position in 2003. During her tenure with the FDI Group for over 40 years, Jayne has been an integral part of the growth and development of the FDI Group family of companies.

Years in Industry: 40 years – FDI Group had 2 companies when I started: Financial Designs and Health Care Administrators. Now there are 9.

Jitender Sunke

Experience: Jitender first joined The FDI Group as a director of applications & infrastructure and was promoted to Chief Technology Officer. Before joining FDI Group, Jitender worked for 15 years as an Enterprise Resource Planning Applications Manager at ITC Holdings Inc. He also has experience in healthcare, utilities, electronics, and automotive industries. Jitender attended Osmania University in Hyderabad, India, where he completed a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and a Master’s degree in Computer Applications. Sunke is a PMI Certified Project Management Professional.

Specialty:Jitender assumes responsibility for overseeing multiple facets of FDI’s information technology, including information security, data management, and analytics. Additionally, he is critical in supporting the growth of FDI’s business by collaborating with internal teams and business units on IT and analytics-related programs that generate revenue. His leadership in this regard ensures that FDI remains at the forefront of technological innovation and data-driven decision-making.

Robert Dewey, MBA

EXPERIENCE: In 2018, Rob joined the FDI Group and CompOne Administrators, attracted by the Family-owned culture, and seeing the need to provide a customer friendly Service Partner for clients frustrated with being lost and forgotten by their TPA partners.

His career in insurance began as a College intern with the Accident Fund Insurance Company of America, was hired on as a Claim Adjuster while continuing his education. The Accident Fund began a startup Alternative Risk Division, which included Self Insured and Assigned Risk claim services, and he was on the leadership team, overseeing the Claim Adjusting Teams and Account Management.

After successfully growing the Accident Fund TPA, he then moved to Citizens Insurance, and became head of Operations for Citizens Management (CMI), which at the time was the largest Michigan TPA and Excess Insurance Carrier. He oversaw the expansion into new lines and additional territories for CMI, where their success lead to the Sale to York Risk Services Group, a growing National TPA.

At York Risk Services Group, his role expanded to Vice President of Client Services over National Self Insured and Large Deductible clients. During this time, he consulted with National and Fortune 500 companies on Risk Management solutions to drive down their total cost of risk, and leading multiple Teams of Account Managers from Coast to Coast.

SPECIALTY: A licensed Property & Casualty Insurance Producer, with a Focus on Excess Insurance Markets while achieving an Associate in Claims (AIC) Insurance Designation. Holding an Executive MBA from the prestigious Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University. Having had the opportunity to be involved with Third Party Administration from Startup, to Large Regional, to National level services. He found that while the size and complexity of the client may differ, the needs and problems are similar. Chief People Officer & EVP of Enterprise Risk Management

Erica Healander

Experience: Erica joined the FDI Group of companies in 2021 as the Vice President of People Operations and Enterprise Risk Management and was promoted to Chief People Officer in 2023. Erica’s roots in the risk management and insurance industry run deep with over 25 years of experience. She started her career as a student assistant in the Risk Management & Workers’ Compensation department at Eastern Michigan University where she was promoted to Manager of Risk Management. She later served as the Director of Risk Management at the University of California where she implemented the campus’ enterprise risk management program. Erica also has experience in client services with national third party administrators, specializing in self-insured public entities.

Specialty: Erica is focused on our greatest asset, our people! She is responsible for organizational transformation, employee development, overall human resource functions and managing our operational, strategic, and compliance-related risks. Her combined experience in the insurance industry along with her Master’s Degree of Human Resource Management & Organizational Development make her an exceptional leader in this role.

Vice President of Claims

Michelle Hibbard

EXPERIENCE: Michelle started her career with The FDI Group of companies in 2010, joining the CompOne team as a claims specialist. In 2013, Michelle was appointed to the position of Claims Manager and later promoted to Vice President of Claims in 2016.

Joining the insurance industry in 1988 as a claim services data-entry clerk for Citizens Insurance, she had the intent to seek out a profession that would provide stability and afford opportunities for growth. She also worked at Gallagher-Basset as a Senior Claims Representative for six years. Throughout her tenure she has continued to learn various aspects of the insurance, sales and customer service industry.

Michelle attended Lansing Community College with studies in psychology and business. She is a licensed adjuster in the State of Michigan.

SPECIALTY: Michelle is responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of the Absence & Disability Program and P & C claims management teams while ensuring superior delivery of claims services and product to the client. In addition, she is responsible for oversight of continuing education requirements of the claims specialists and ensuring that staff members remain in compliance with regulatory and company standards.

As a licensed adjuster for the last 15 years, she has worked in all aspects of claims management; data entry, policy review, salvage/subrogation, designing a claims system, managing workers’ compensation within multiple states, and overseeing a wonderful group of claims professionals.

AJ Hale

EXPERIENCE: AJ has 30 years of experience in Safety, Environmental & Health, having worked throughout the United States and Mexico. Over the course of his career, he has provided risk assessments and safety consultations to governmental entities, manufacturing, healthcare systems, construction, transportation, educational institutions and the retail industry. AJ is recognized as one of the leading Safety and Loss Prevention Professionals in the Midwest.

Due to CompOne’s continuous growth in the marketplace, AJ assumed the senior leadership position of the Safety and Loss Control Department in 2014. In this role, he is strategically expanding the range and scope of services offered to meet the ever changing needs of our clients. AJ expressed CompOne’s ongoing commitment to be able to provide immediate assistance and the highest quality of service at a moment’s notice.

With his acumen of the Health & Safety profession, AJ was appointed to the General Industry Safety Standards Commission by the Governor of the State of Michigan and remains very active on the Michigan Safety Council. Working closely with clients, agents and policy makers; he is committed to using best practices and a compliance-driven approach to identify, evaluate and reduce workplace loss exposures.

Prior to CompOne, AJ was a Firefighter for North America Philips Company where he received an offer to attend the University of Findlay for Environmental Law, which sparked his interest in Environmental, Health & Safety. After working for Philips he began an EHS position in manufacturing, starting him down the path of helping others maintain a safe work culture. AJ then went on to oversee EHS for a number of plants for an Automotive Manufacturing company for 10 years, before accepting a position with CompOne in 2010.

SPECIALTY: Expertise in Standards and Regulations, and Teaching. Studying and understanding all Standards and Regulations (EPA, DEQ, ANSI, NFPA, DOT, Tribal, Gaming Industry, and Agriculture). Marcelle Norgan

EXPERIENCE: Marci leads a strong team of registered nurses and technical bill review analysts who are focused on reviewing medical bills for proper coding practices with an emphasis on the level of service, appropriate treatment, and relatedness to the injuries reported. This comprehensive analysis approach to bill review allows us to consistently achieve and exceed expectations in medical cost containment.

Marci has 23 years of nursing experience and offers a wealth of knowledge to our clients in the Workers’ Compensation and Auto PIP arenas. Prior to joining ManageAbility, Marci was a Nurse Auditor for MedAudit Services for 10 years. She has extensive experience reviewing Auto PIP and Workers’ Compensation claims for aberrant billing practices utilizing CPT and HCPCS coding rules, NCCI edits, ODG and surgical coding guidelines as well as medical policy research. She also specialized in the composition of in-depth record review reports and comprehensive comparison spreadsheets when necessary.

SPECIALTY: Expertise in external auditing, with focus on Workers’ Compensation and Auto PIP.  As a registered nurse licensed in the state of Michigan, she holds a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification from the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC) and is currently working on the Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) certification through AAPC as well. Additionally, Marci has been an active member of Michigan Association of Healthcare Auditors (MAHA) since 2007 and has served as the President of this non-profit organization since the spring of 2011.

Kelly Ridenour, AS

EXPERIENCE: Kelly has over 25 years of experience within the financial aspect of the insurance industry. She has enjoyed the past 18 years specifically in Workers’ Compensation, with 15 years in the TPA division. Kelly joined CompOne in 2010 as Operations Supervisor, where she enjoys coaching and motivating employees by providing opportunities that enhance strength, while also ensuring the quality control and integrity of each client checking account is of her utmost priority. As a graduate of Davenport University, she holds an Associates of Science Degree in Business Administration.

Her career began in 1993 as a Print Buyer, representing an internationally based insurance/financial planning organization; holding the responsibility of managing a purchasing budget of over 12 million dollars annually. In 2004, she joined the Workers’ Compensation line of insurance, continuing her experience within the financial field of business. Additionally, she also administered the Assigned Risk field of insurance.

SPECIALTY: Certified with a completion of the Workers’ Compensation Law Training Course through Michigan State University. Additionally, the liaison for the State of Michigan Assessments and SET invoicing, as the contact for State renewal reporting. Currently overseeing the integrity of multiple client loss-fund bank accounts, exceeding millions of dollars daily. She administers the process of obtaining funding for court-ordered agreements, client loss-fund reimbursements, as well as claim check issuance and disbursement.

EXPERIENCE: Jodi has always had an interest in the medical field. After her freshman year at college, she decided against an additional 11 years of school and went into the business program.  After graduating, she landed her first job at a financial consulting company, doing cold calls, and hated it.  A friend of hers told her about a job opening at Auto-Owners Insurance, handling medical claims.  Thinking it was the best of both worlds, accessing her medical knowledge, while utilizing her business degree, she started in 2006 and has been handling Auto PIP claims ever since.

SPECIALTY: Catastrophic claims and litigated claims. She’s earned multiple designations including: CPCU, AIC, AIM, AIS, and INS. In addition, she’s completed the James Borin No-Fault course, the Farm Bureau claims specialist school, and participated in various ongoing learning opportunities.
