President & CEO

Mark Churella, is president and chief executive officer of CompOne Administrators and The FDI Group Family of Companies. Mark oversees the strategic direction of the Novi-based insurance industry support services company. As president, he oversees the development and implementation of the enterprise investment strategy and provides direction to leadership functions and business organizations to meet the enduring needs of our customers in the United States and around the world.

Prior to this positon, Mark was appointed President and CEO of Financial Designs, Inc. in 1988. Under his leadership the FDI Group was established in 1990 to serve as the controlling entity of the growing number of companies. Today, there are nine affiliates thriving under the FDI Group umbrella which exemplifies his commitment of creative business development to bring the best solutions, the best people and the best service to the marketplace.

Mark entered into the industry in 1984 as an insurance agent in the family owned agency of Financial Designs, Inc. which was founded by his father, Robert G. Churella, Sr. in 1970.

A native of Farmington Hills, MI, Mark earned a B.A. degree from the University of Michigan in 1979. As a student at the University of Michigan he competed in wrestling and became the Universities only 3-time NCAA Champion. He is married and has three children.

Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer

Bruce Stubbs is executive vice president and chief operating officer of The FDI Group claims management companies; ManageAbility, CompOne Administrators, and Startech Software. Bruce is responsible for ensuring that the appropriate people, processes and tools are in place to enable delivery of services and for building a culture of continuous improvement within the companies. As executive vice president, he integrates work across the core operations and quality assurance operations, and coordinates with other functions including Information Technology, and Risk Management, to support business success and provide value to customers.

Bruce began his career with The FDI Group of companies as vice president of sales in February 2005. He led efforts in sales and business development and was an integral member in the financial planning and reporting, pricing, estimating and cost management activities within the claims management companies. In 2006, Bruce was appointed to the position of executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Bruce joined ASU Group-Recovery Unlimited as an account executive in 1991. During his fourteen years, he held a number of posts finishing his tenure as vice president of sales in 2005. His experience included Managed Care Products, Independent Adjusting Services and Claims Administration in the P & C Insurance markets.

Bruce entered into the industry in 1988 as an account executive for work recovery, a rehabilitation and vocational provider.

Bruce is a member of the Knights of Columbus and spends his free time volunteering to help disabled children. He is a veteran of the U.S. Armed Services having served as a Military Police Officer. Bruce is a father of three children and is a native of the Chelsea, Michigan area.

Ryan Churella

Vice President of Operations

As a member of the leadership team, Ryan manages a number of organization-wide processes and activities, driving seamless “FDI Group” strategies and execution across the enterprise. As vice president of operations, he shares in the day-to-day oversight and support of CompOne, ManageAbility, MAI IME, Rizikon, and Startech business affiliates and focuses on specific growth enablers, including provision performance, important national relationships, and leadership initiatives.

Prior to being appointed to his current position, Ryan served as Account Executive for CompOne Administrators. As an Account Executive he worked closely with self-insured employers helping them reduce risk and overall exposure by implementing industry best practices, medical cost containment processes, and RTW programs.

Ryan is a member of The FDI Group executive board and has played a leadership role in the expansion of technology engagement and was instrumental in the successful implementation of numerous corporate initiatives to ensure stability and continuity of service to customers.

Ryan is passionate about providing solutions to his clients and building upon the company started by his Grandfather over 50 years ago. Ryan earned a B.A. degree from the University of Michigan. At the University of Michigan he was a 3-time NCAA All-American in wrestling and 3-time NCAA Academic All-American. He resides in Ann Arbor with his wife and their two young children.

Michelle Hibbard

Vice President of Claims

Michelle is the corporate Claims Manager, having begun her career with The FDI Group of companies in 2010. Michelle is responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of the Short-Term Disability and Workers’ Compensation Claims Specialists while ensuring superior delivery of claims services and product to the client. In addition, she is responsible for oversight of continuing education requirements of the claims specialists and ensuring that staff members remain in compliance with regulatory and company standards.

Michelle began her career with CompOne as a claims specialist. In 2013, Michelle was appointed to the position of Claims Manager of the Okemos office. In April, 2015, Michelle assumed the duties of Claims Manager, corporate-wide.

Prior to CompOne, Michelle worked at Gallagher-Bassett as a Senior Claims Representative. During her six years, she was responsible for the claims management for multiple Workers’ Compensation TPA clients within the states of; Michigan, Indiana, Iowa and Missouri, as well as handling minor general liability claims, finishing in 2004.

Michelle entered into the industry in 1988 as a claim services data-entry clerk for Citizens Insurance. During her tenure, her primary focus was handling multi-line claims; including subrogation relating to, auto, property, liability and workers’ compensation. During the course of her tenure, Michelle spent a great deal of time traveling to twenty-four claims offices, assisting six line managers, field nurse case managers and was intimately involved in backing up claims during catastrophic loss events. Her experience included TPA, workers’ compensation; subrogation, and handling basic general liability claims. She has handled multi-state, commercial and self-insured claims in both Indiana and Michigan.

Michelle attended Lansing Community College with studies in psychology and business. She is a licensed adjuster in the State of Michigan.

AJ Hale

AJ Hale

Safety & Loss Prevention Manager

AJ has more than 25 years of experience in Safety, Environmental & Health, having worked throughout the United States and Mexico. Over the course of his career, he has provided risk assessments and safety consultation to municipalities, governmental entities, manufacturing, healthcare systems, construction, transportation, educational institutions and the retail industry. Mr. Hale is recognized as one of the leading Safety and Loss Professionals in the Midwest.

With his acumen of the Health & Safety profession, AJ was appointed to the General Industry Safety Standards Commission by the Governor of the State of Michigan and remains very active on the Michigan Safety Council. Working closely with clients, agents and policy makers; he is committed to using best practices and a compliance-driven approach to identify, evaluate and reduce workplace loss exposures.

Due to CompOne’s continuous growth in the marketplace, AJ assumed the senior leadership position of the Safety and Loss Control Department in 2014. In this role, he is strategically expanding the range and scope of services offered to meet the ever changing needs of the client. AJ expressed CompOne’s ongoing commitment to be able to provide immediate assistance and the highest quality of service at a moment’s notice.

Kelly Ridenour, AS

Operations Supervisor

Kelly has over 20 years of experience within the financial aspect of the insurance industry.  She has enjoyed the past 13 years specifically in Workers’ Compensation, with 10 years in the TPA division. 

As a Buyer for one of the largest insurance companies in the United States, she oversaw a budget of over $12,000,000 annually.  She managed several national vendor relationships, and coordinated and developed departmental training.

 As a Supervisor, Kelly enjoys coaching and motivating employees by providing opportunities that enhance strengths.  Ensuring the quality control and integrity of each TPA client checking account is of her utmost priority. 

Kelly attended the MSU Workers’ Compensation Law Training Course, and is also a graduate of Davenport University with an Associate of Science Degree in Business Administration.
